HOW TO BEGIN…

Open Microsoft WORD and open a NEW document

SAVE as a Web Page in your home directory in a new folder called Web Page

 

 

  

TEXT & TABLES

Text in arranged on the page in tables

 

From the TABLES drop down menu select insert table

Choose a table of 4 columns and 5 rows

In Autoformat you can select a Web Table style

Click on Autofit to window

 

Select all the cells in the first row of the table

From the TABLES drop down menu choose merge cells

Enter your title here

You can choose a font, size, colour and style to suit

OR you can use an animated text from one of the following website

Flaming Text

 

 Now enter your contents headings into the next row of cells in your table

 

Select the next two cells on the left-hand side of your page and merge

 

Add some text into the third row of your table e.g. purpose/introduction to your page

 

Leave the last row free

 

 

  

BACKGROUND

You can add a background to your page to create the mood of your topic

Backgrounds can be colours, textures or clip art

Colour – From the FORMAT menu choose Background and select the colour of your choice

Textures – From the FORMAT menu choose Background and select FILL EFFECTS to create texture or patterns

Clip Art – Use the clip art available to use a picture as a Background in FILL EFFECTS

 

You can also use backgrounds found on the internet for free e.g.

TEXT

You can enter text on your page using any font, style or colour

DO NOT use more than 3 styles in your web pages

Choose your colours and styles carefully to ensure they are legible

 

 

 

 

 

SAVING

Save your web page frequently into your H drive as an .html file

 

Name your first page “index.html”

 

You can view your completed page by selecting WEB PAGE PREVIEW from the FILE menu

 

 

 

 

HYPERLINKS

Insert hyperlinks on your web page in order to move the viewer to another location

e.g. link your contents headings to the actual information

You may choose to link to another part of the page, another page or an internet site

 

PART OF THE PAGE

First, you need to create the sub-headings and make them HEADINGS from the Style button

Highlight the word which you wish to make your hyperlink

From the INSERT menu select HYPERLINKS

Choose to link to another place in this document

Select the appropriate heading and click OK

 

ANOTHER PAGE

First, you need to create the new page and save it into your H drive

Highlight the word which you wish to make your hyperlink

From the INSERT menu select HYPERLINKS

Choose to link to the appropriate page in your H drive

 

INTERNET SITE

OR you may choose to link to an Internet site

Highlight the word which you wish to make your hyperlink

From the INSERT menu select HYPERLINKS

Choose to link to another webpage

Enter the URL for an Internet site

 

 

 

 

GRAPHICS

Use appropriate graphics to highlight the topic of your web page

To insert clip art select PICTURE from the INSERT menu

You may search for the picture of your choice

Click on the INSERT button

Move or re-size your picture to suit

 

You may search for appropriate graphics from the Internet using a picture search tool

Clip Art Gallery

Right-click on the picture and select COPY

Return to your web page and PASTE the picture onto your page

 

Don’t forget, because you are presenting your graphics on a web page, they can be animated

You can search for animations using Clip Art

You can search for animations from the Internet too e.g.

BUTTONS/DIVIDERS

Use buttons available in clip art to customize your web page

 

Buttons can be used to highlight items in a list

Buttons can be used to direct the viewer to another part of the web page

Your can create your own buttons using the DRAW program

Or you can insert buttons from the internet

 

 

Dividers allow you to organise your text into paragraph chunks

You can insert dividers by using Clip Art

Or you can insert dividers from the internet.
