Handbells

All students enjoy playing handbells in the classroom Performing Arts program. However, there are two specialist teams. The Nudgee Junior College Handbell Ensemble play at many functions and in various festivals, and meet two lunch hours per week. The second is the inaugural Nudgee Junior College Old Boys’ Ensemble, who meet each Monday evening. Both teams will be participating in the 12th International Handbell Symposium 2006, to be held at the Brisbane Convention Centre from 1st to 5th August. Their Director is the Performing Arts Teacher, Barbara McGeever.

Band

Nudgee Junior College students may learn an instrument from one of the following orchestral families - Woodwind, Brass and Percussion. Over the years, numbers have grown under the popular tuition of Cath Esbensen, Jonathan Bolt and Michael Bannon . There are four groups - the non-auditioned Senior and Junior Bands, as well as the Jazz Ensemble and the Percussion Ensemble. The groups play in festivals as well as on special occasions, both at school and in the wider community.

Choir

Students at Nudgee Junior College are welcome to join the non-auditioned school choir, which enhances school liturgies and represents the school in festivals and on special occasions. Meeting two morning a week, the choir gives like-minded students a non-threatening avenue in which they can enjoy singing while developing vocal and dramatic skills. The choir consists of over 70 very committed students and is under the guidance of the Performing Arts Teacher, Barbara McGeever. Selected boys join in a Music Excellence Day with 8 other GPS schools, combining in a night performance of a combined Choir, Concert Band and String Orchestra.

Vocal Ensemble

Years 6 and 7 choristers are able to audition for the Nudgee Junior College Vocal Ensemble. This selected group meets one extra morning a week to develop further their performance skills, both vocal and dramatic.
